Mom has been complaining about her entire left arm and hand going to sleep. Today we saw Dr. Kleven about it. He did some simple neurological tests such as assessing her finger and hand strength, having her pull and push against him, etc. He doesn't know the reason her arm is falling asleep and doesn't think it is dangerous but is having her see a neurologist. She will be getting a referral letter in the mail. After that comes we will schedule an appointment. Her weight was 122 and her blood pressure was 136/82.
Today she is also starting on Namenda XR (memantine HCI) extended release capsules and took her first dose of 7 mg. tonight. She will take 7 mg. each evening (with her regular pills) for 7 days, then increases the dose to 14 mg. for 7 days, then 21 mg. and 28 mg. and maintains at 28 mg. We have samples for the first 4 weeks and a prescription to be filled at the end of 28 days. During that time I will shop around to find the lowest cost to have it filled. So Mom has 6 small baggies for her medicines for the next 6 days. The 7 days of Meds for May 20-26 are pinned on the back side of a white sweater that is hung in the living room closet. The Meds for May 27 - June 2nd are hidden inside the middle little painted house in the living room. The meds for June 3rd to June 9th are in the front bedroom closet under the game board on the top shelf.
Tonight I talked to Mom about her wishes after she dies. She wants to be buried with her family in Arkansas. She knows that will be expensive and said she will be giving this some serious thought in the next few weeks to make sure this is what she wants to do.
Her present meds are:
Lexapro 20 mg.
Airacept 10 mg.
B12 sublingual
80 mg low does baby aspirin
Namenda as described above
